Huron sits at the heart of South Dakota's James River Valley, a stretch of the Great Plains where the land opens flat and wide under enormous skies. The region is agricultural country — wheat fields, wetlands, and the kind of prairie horizon that makes distances genuinely hard to judge. That same landscape shapes the golf here: exposed terrain, persistent wind, and a course that plays differently depending on which direction the breeze decides to run.
Broadland Creek National sits in this setting as a full 18-hole, par-72 layout serving a community that takes its golf seriously despite — or perhaps because of — the no-frills environment. The name suggests the creek corridors and broad lowland terrain characteristic of this part of central South Dakota, where water features and native rough can make course management as important as ball-striking.
Huron is a mid-sized regional hub with genuine local character, and a round here carries that same quality: honest prairie golf, exposed to the elements, without the pretense of a destination resort but with the authentic feel of a course rooted in its place.
