Hörlycke sits just outside Trollhättan, a city defined by water and engineering ambition — the dramatic locks and waterfalls of the Göta Älv river system have shaped this place for centuries, and the surrounding landscape carries that same rugged, rocky character that typifies southwestern Sweden's interior. The club occupies terrain that is distinctly Scandinavian: granite outcroppings, pine and birch woodland, and the kind of honest, unhurried golf culture that Swedish clubs of this scale tend to foster well.
Trollhättan sits within Västra Götaland's broader golf corridor, a region with a serious density of courses stretching from Gothenburg northward, and local golfers tend to move freely between them through the season. Hörlycke serves as a genuine community club — the sort of place where members track each other's handicaps closely and the social fabric around the game matters as much as the scorecard.
Sweden's playing season runs roughly May through October here, and the long midsummer evenings offer something that no rating system can measure: light that seems to refuse to leave, stretching a round well past nine o'clock without a torch.
