Few golf clubs in Australia carry the institutional weight of Killara. Founded in 1911, it is one of Sydney's oldest and most distinguished private members' clubs, occupying a leafy corner of the upper North Shore that has changed remarkably little since the Edwardian era. The course winds through the established bushland and sandstone ridges of Gordon and Killara, where towering eucalypts and native scrub define virtually every hole and demand accuracy over raw power.
The layout has strong historical roots, with design work associated with the influential Eric Apperly, and it plays as a genuine examination of ball-striking and course management rather than a bombers' track. Tight tree-lined corridors, undulating terrain, and greens that reward approach play over brute distance give the course a character that feels earned rather than manufactured.
Killara sits in one of Sydney's most prestigious residential corridors, and the club reflects that setting — understated, well-maintained, and serious about its golf. This is a place with a long memory and high standards.
