The National

Few courses in Scandinavia carry the ambition that shaped The National, which occupies a stretch of open coastal farmland on the southwestern tip of Sweden. Designed by European Golf Design and opened in 2007, the course was built to championship standard from the outset, with a routing that draws on the exposed, links-influenced terrain of Skåne's shoreline. The layout has earned consistent recognition among Sweden's elite courses and is the centrepiece of a broader golf resort development that reflects Skåne's growing identity as one of northern Europe's serious golf destinations.

The setting does much of the work. Bara sits in a predominantly flat, windswept agricultural landscape not far from Malmö, and the course uses that openness deliberately — there is little shelter from the prevailing westerlies, and the wind shifts the equation on virtually every hole. Firm fairways, large greens, and a sense of genuine exposure give the place a character closer to the British seaside tradition than most continental European parkland designs.

Malmö is only a short drive north, and the Øresund Bridge puts Copenhagen within easy reach, making The National a natural stop for visiting golfers touring the region. The club operates with resort facilities, but the course itself retains a serious, uncompromising edge that rewards thoughtful play over raw power.
