The Coachella Valley's golf landscape is as dense as anywhere in America — hundreds of courses scattered across the desert floor between Palm Springs and the Salton Sea — and Indio sits at the eastern end of that corridor, where the valley opens wide and the Santa Rosa Mountains rise sharply to the south. The climate here is among the most reliably sunny in the country, with playing conditions that stay warm well into autumn and return early in spring, though summer heat is serious business.
The name "The Plantation" evokes the lush, almost tropical aesthetic that many Coachella Valley courses pursue — palm-lined fairways, manicured turf standing in vivid contrast to the surrounding Sonoran Desert terrain, and the kind of resort-influenced presentation the region does consistently well. Par-72 layouts in this valley tend to offer room off the tee and plenty of length to reward big hitters.
Indio itself is best known as the home of the Coachella and Stagecoach festivals, but it has a quiet, less-touristed feel compared to Palm Springs proper — making golf here a practical, unhurried option away from the valley's more high-profile resort destinations.
