Three-Nine Golf Club sits within Shenzhen's sprawling urban fabric, one of dozens of courses that emerged during the city's extraordinary economic boom of the 1980s and 1990s. Shenzhen was China's first Special Economic Zone, and golf arrived here as a symbol of international business culture — courses multiplied alongside the skyscrapers, and the city became one of Asia's densest concentrations of golf real estate. Three-Nine (三九, a name associated with the prominent Chinese conglomerate 999/Sanjiu Group) reflects that era, when corporate patronage was the engine behind much of mainland China's golf development.
Guangdong's subtropical climate means play is genuinely year-round, though summer brings heat, humidity, and afternoon thunderstorms that define the rhythm of a round. The lush, fast-growing vegetation typical of the Pearl River Delta gives courses here a dense, tropical character — fairways bordered by mature trees and thick rough that punishes wayward shots.
As a corporate-affiliated club in an intensely competitive local market, Three-Nine caters primarily to business golfers and members, offering a polished, private-feeling experience in a city that has always treated golf as seriously as commerce.
