Few courses in Canada command attention quite like Tobiano, which perches dramatically above Kamloops Lake on the arid, sage-covered benchlands of British Columbia's interior. Designed by Thomas McBroom and opened in 2008, it earned an immediate national reputation — routinely landing on lists of Canada's top public courses — and the setting alone explains why. The land drops, rises, and falls in ways that produce wildly varied lies and panoramic views across the lake and the surrounding canyon country.
McBroom's routing takes full advantage of the terrain without forcing it. Fairways tumble through coulees and climb exposed ridgelines, and the wind off the lake is a factor on nearly every hole. Several holes play directly along — or dramatically above — the water, giving the back nine in particular a genuine sense of scale and exposure that photographs don't fully prepare you for.
Kamloops sits at the confluence of the Thompson Rivers in the heart of the BC interior, where a semi-arid climate means a long season by Canadian standards and conditions that tend to be firm and fast. For visiting golfers, Tobiano is comfortably the marquee destination in the region.
