Shalimar Pointe sits along the shores of Cinco Bayou in the Florida Panhandle, where the Emerald Coast's distinctive white-quartz sand beaches give way to an inland landscape of longleaf pines, water oaks, and brackish tidal flats. The town of Shalimar is a small, close-knit community just outside Fort Walton Beach, tucked between Eglin Air Force Base and the Choctawhatchee Bay — giving this stretch of Northwest Florida a character quite different from the resort-saturated courses further east along the Gulf Coast.
The course plays as a semi-private layout in a region that draws a mix of military families stationed at Eglin and Hurlburt Field, retirees, and the seasonal wave of beach tourists who discover that the Panhandle offers surprisingly serious golf alongside its famous shoreline. Water features heavily in the routing, as it does throughout this low-lying coastal terrain, and the bayou setting adds genuine scenic texture to the round.
For visiting golfers, the Panhandle's golf tends to be relaxed and unhurried — less ego-driven than Florida's resort corridors — and Shalimar Pointe fits that culture well. The climate allows nearly year-round play, with the most comfortable conditions arriving in the long shoulder seasons of spring and fall.
