Few golf clubs carry the social and historical weight of Cottesloe in the Perth golfing landscape. Founded in 1909, it is one of Western Australia's oldest clubs, and its course has evolved across more than a century into a compact but demanding layout that rewards local knowledge. The grounds sit in the western suburbs of Perth, close to the famous Cottesloe beach and the Indian Ocean, and the sea breeze — the Fremantle Doctor — is not a minor factor here. It shifts club selection, bends ball flight, and turns benign-looking holes into genuine tests, particularly in the afternoon.
The course itself plays through an established residential neighborhood, with mature trees framing many holes and giving the layout a sense of enclosure unusual for coastal Perth. It is a members' course in character and feel — unhurried, well-kept, and steeped in the rhythms of a club that has been part of its community for generations.
Perth's golf scene is quietly strong, with a Mediterranean climate that keeps the turf firm and fast through the long dry summer. Cottesloe suits the golfer who values precision over power, and a good local knowledge of the Doctor's moods over sheer distance.
