Maple Creek sits in the southwest corner of Saskatchewan, where the prairies begin their long argument with the Cypress Hills — an anomalous upland plateau that rises dramatically from the surrounding flatlands and harbors one of the genuinely surprising landscapes on the Canadian plains. The hills escaped the last ice age's leveling work, leaving behind a terrain of coulees, lodgepole pine, and rolling elevation that has no real equivalent for hundreds of kilometers in any direction. It's an unlikely and compelling place to find golf.
Cypress Hills Golf Resort plays through this elevated terrain, which means the course trades the wide, wind-whipped openness of prairie golf for something more sheltered and wooded — tighter lines, natural contour, and the kind of visual variety that flat Saskatchewan rarely offers. The setting does most of the scenic heavy lifting, and at par 72 over 18 holes, the layout has room to use the land properly.
Maple Creek itself is a small ranching and heritage town, close enough to the Alberta border that it carries a certain frontier character. For golfers making the drive out here, the resort functions as a genuine destination — the hills are a provincial park, and the golf is one more reason to stay.
