Few golf courses can claim the backdrop that greets players here: the South China Sea stretching to the horizon on one side, and the granite massif of Mount Kinabalu — Borneo's highest peak and one of Southeast Asia's most dramatic landmarks — rising into the clouds on the other. The Sutera Harbour Golf Course sits within the Sutera Harbour Resort complex along the Kota Kinabalu waterfront, and the views alone make it a destination worth seeking out. Designed by Graham Marsh, the layout was crafted to take full advantage of its coastal setting, weaving through the resort grounds with water features and manicured fairways that reflect the ambitions of a high-end resort property.
Kota Kinabalu itself is Sabah's cosmopolitan capital, a city rebuilt after wartime destruction and now a gateway to some of the world's great ecotourism. The surrounding golf scene is relatively compact, which makes Sutera Harbour the obvious anchor of the region's resort golf offering.
Conditions here are shaped by a true equatorial climate — warm and humid year-round, with afternoon showers common. Turfgrass stays lush across the seasons, though early mornings reward players with cooler air and frequently the clearest sightlines to the mountain before the daily clouds roll in.
