Lake Tapps sits in the Cascade foothills east of Tacoma and Auburn, a reservoir community built around a man-made lake that Pierce County filled in the early 20th century for hydroelectric power. Tapps Island Golf Course occupies one of the more unusual addresses in the South Sound golf scene: an actual island community within the lake, accessible by a private causeway.
