Golf de Villacoublay

The Aéroclub de France established Golf de Villacoublay on land adjoining the historic Vélizy-Villacoublay air base, one of the oldest military airfields in the world, active since the earliest days of French aviation. That aeronautical heritage is woven into the atmosphere here — this is a course where low-flying aircraft overhead is simply part of the rhythm of a round, accepted with Gallic equanimity by the membership.

Bièvres sits in the Vallée de la Bièvre, a quietly wooded corridor south of Paris in the Essonne, where the Île-de-France's characteristic mix of oak forest, open plateau farmland, and chalk-clay soils shapes both the landscape and how courses play. Golf de Villacoublay occupies terrain that is more park-like than heathland, with mature trees lining most holes and providing the primary defense against wayward shots. The turf plays firm in summer and heavier through autumn.

As a private members' club, the course serves a tight community of Parisian-area golfers who value the escape from the city's density. Visitors require an introduction through membership, which keeps the pace of play measured and the grounds well-maintained year-round.
