Few Surrey clubs carry quite the sense of settled permanence that Tandridge does. Founded in 1924, the club occupies a stretch of the North Downs escarpment near Oxted, where the chalk and greensand countryside rolls through ancient woodland and open heathland in that distinctly Surrey way. Harry Colt laid out the original design, and his fingerprints — the strategic bunkering, the thoughtful use of natural ground movement, the quiet way a hole reveals itself — remain legible across the course today. It is the kind of layout that rewards the observant player rather than the merely powerful one.
Oxted sits close to the Kent border, about 20 miles south of London, on the edge of the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that stretches across the North Downs. Surrey has long been one of England's richest counties for golf, and Tandridge occupies a respected place in that company — a genuine members' club with a course that has matured gracefully over a century of play.
At par 71 the card is not long by modern standards, but Colt-designed courses rarely need length to test a golfer's decision-making. Accuracy, course management, and an honest short game tend to separate the scores here rather than raw distance off the tee.
