Few golf experiences in the American Midwest match what Arcadia Bluffs delivers on its South Course. Opened in 2018 and designed by Rees Jones, this companion layout to the original Bluffs course sits on the same dramatic stretch of land along the eastern shore of Lake Michigan, where the terrain rolls and drops through stands of hardwood forest before opening onto blufftop terrain with sweeping views of the water. Where the original course hugs the cliff edges more aggressively, the South Course works through more varied interior ground, offering a different rhythm while sharing the same spectacular sense of place.
Arcadia itself is a small, unhurried town in Manistee County, roughly halfway up Michigan's Lower Peninsula. The broader region draws visitors for its dunes, cherry orchards, and the kind of undeveloped shoreline that has largely disappeared elsewhere in the Great Lakes. The golf season runs from late spring through fall, with August and September offering the most settled conditions.
Together, the 2 courses have elevated Arcadia Bluffs into one of the Midwest's most compelling golf destinations — the kind of place serious players plan trips around rather than simply stumble upon.
