18 Hole Course

Walking into Walking Stick Golf Course — one of Pueblo's most distinctive public layouts — you immediately sense you're somewhere different. Designed by Arthur Hills and opened in 1991, the course earned its name from the walking stick cactus native to the high desert terrain that defines its character. It sits along the Arkansas River bluffs south of downtown Pueblo, where dramatic elevation changes, exposed sandstone outcroppings, and sweeping views of the Front Range create a setting that feels genuinely wild for a municipal-caliber facility.

Hills routed the course to work with the land rather than against it, and the result is a design that rewards shotmakers who can manage uneven lies and think their way around a layout that bites back when you miss. Several holes play along or above the river canyon, where wind is a constant factor and the margin for error shrinks considerably.

Pueblo itself sits at roughly 4,700 feet elevation, meaning the ball flies farther than the yardage suggests — a welcome bonus for most players, though it won't fully offset the challenges Hills built in.
