Cross County is rice and soybean country — flat Delta farmland stretching to the horizon in every direction, the Mississippi Alluvial Plain doing what it does best: offering up some of the richest agricultural soil in America and, incidentally, terrain that golf course designers either embrace or fight. Wynne sits at the heart of that landscape, a small Arkansas Delta town where the pace is deliberate and the golf tends to be local, loyal, and unpretentious.
North-West reads as a community course in the truest sense — the kind of place where regulars know each other by first name, tee times are rarely a problem, and the game is played for the pleasure of it rather than for any aspirational ranking. A par 74 is a detail worth noting: the extra strokes typically mean a layout leaning on par-5s or a par-3 somewhere off the expected count, which often gives a course a slightly relaxed, even generous character.
Delta golf in Arkansas doesn't get much press, but it has its own quiet integrity. The land is what it is — wide, open, subject to humid summers and mild winters — and courses here tend to play honest, without manufactured drama.
