Few stretches of west London have as long a relationship with golf as the Wyke Green corridor between Isleworth and Osterley. Wyke Green Golf Club has occupied this ground since 1928, occupying parkland that sits in the shadow of the M4 and within earshot of Heathrow's flight paths — an incongruity that somehow becomes part of its charm. The layout was designed by James Braid, one of the most prolific and respected architects of early 20th-century British golf, and his fingerprints remain visible in the strategic bunkering and the ground-game demands that reward a thinking player.
The course plays across flat to gently undulating parkland, with mature oak and lime trees defining corridors and shaping the decisions off the tee. At par 69 it is not long by modern standards, but Braid's routing keeps the challenge honest, and scoring well demands accuracy over aggression.
The surrounding area takes in Osterley Park, Syon Park, and the Thames-side greenery that makes this pocket of Middlesex feel more rural than its postcode suggests. It is a private members' club with a quiet, settled character — the kind of place where the golf has been taken seriously, unhurriedly, for nearly a century.
