Few golf clubs in England carry the unhurried, aristocratic atmosphere of Rochester and Cobham Park. The course occupies the grounds of Cobham Park, a historic estate in the rolling Kentish countryside between Rochester and Gravesend, and the mature woodland that frames virtually every hole gives it a private, almost timeless quality that distinguishes it sharply from the open heathland courses more typical of the southeast.
The layout was designed by Harry Colt, the great Edwardian architect responsible for Sunningdale's New Course, Wentworth, and dozens of other English classics. Colt's signature is easy to read here: intelligent use of the natural terrain, holes that ask strategic questions rather than simply demanding power, and a rhythm that rewards thoughtful play round after round. The par-71 card conceals a test that plays longer in the mind than on paper.
Rochester itself sits at the mouth of the Medway, a city of cathedral, castle, and Dickensian literary heritage. The club draws on that same sense of deep-rooted English character — a proper member's course that has quietly earned its reputation over more than a century.
