Few golf destinations in the American Southwest carry the daily-fee resort pedigree of Desert Falls Country Club. Opened in 1984 and designed by Ron Fream, the course became one of Palm Desert's busiest and most recognizable layouts during the resort golf boom that transformed the Coachella Valley through the 1980s and '90s. Fream leaned into the desert-target style that defined that era — generous landing areas framed by sculpted waste bunkers, dramatic bunkering, and water features that feel almost theatrical against the raw Sonoran landscape. The Santa Rosa Mountains rise to the south, and on a clear winter morning the backdrop is genuinely spectacular.
The course plays as a true desert target test, where errant shots find sand, scrub, and trouble in a hurry. That said, it has always positioned itself as welcoming to a wide range of handicaps, which explains its enduring popularity with resort visitors and Coachella Valley regulars alike.
Palm Desert sits at the heart of one of the densest concentrations of golf courses on the planet, so competition for rounds is fierce — Desert Falls has held its own by offering a legitimate desert experience at accessible green fees.
