Few courses on the South Carolina Grand Strand have built a reputation as quickly or as decisively as True Blue Golf Club. Designed by Mike Strantz and opened in 1998, it is widely regarded as one of the most imaginative and demanding public courses in the region — a bold, theatrical layout that rewards creative shot-making and punishes timidity. Strantz, a former Tom Fazio associate who developed a fiercely individual design voice, gave True Blue massive, wildly contoured greens, dramatic bunkering, and a routing that feels unlike anything else along this stretch of the Carolina coast.
The course sits just inland from Pawleys Island, one of the oldest resort communities on the Atlantic seaboard, where the landscape shifts from barrier island marshland to dense stands of longleaf pine. That setting gives the course genuine character — a sense of southern lowcountry that the Grand Strand's more commercial corridors rarely deliver.
True Blue consistently earns placement on national "best public courses" lists, and its sister course Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, also a Strantz design nearby, reinforces just how much this quiet corner of Georgetown County punches above its weight in golf terms.
