Hurdwick

Devon's rolling countryside reaches some of its most dramatic heights around Tavistock, where Hurdwick sits on land that has shaped this corner of the southwest for centuries. The course occupies elevated ground on the western fringes of Dartmoor, which means the views across the moor and toward the Cornish border are a constant companion — and the wind, when it comes off the high ground, can reframe every club selection on the card.

Hurdwick is owned and operated by the Tavistock Golf Club, one of the older clubs in Devon, and the layout reflects the honest, no-frills character of moorland golf: firm turf, natural contours, and conditions that change markedly with the seasons. It is the kind of course that rewards local knowledge and punishes complacency more than raw power.

Tavistock itself is a handsome market town with deep roots in the tin and copper mining era, and it sits on the edge of one of England's great national parks. Playing Hurdwick is as much about being in that landscape as it is about the golf itself.
