Onsjö Golfklubb sits on the southern fringe of Vänersborg, a town defined by its position where Lake Vänern — Scandinavia's largest lake and Europe's third largest — empties into the Göta älv river. That geography shapes everything about the area: broad skies, open water not far from view, and a landscape of mixed forest and agricultural flatlands that is quintessentially West Swedish. Västra Götaland is one of Sweden's most golf-rich regions, home to dozens of clubs ranging from championship venues to relaxed community layouts, and Onsjö fits comfortably into the latter tradition.
The club carries the name of the Onsjö district and draws its membership largely from Vänersborg and the neighboring city of Trollhättan, making it genuinely local in character — the kind of place where regulars know each other by name and the pace of play reflects that ease. Expect tree-lined fairways, the soft turf typical of this part of Scandinavia, and conditions that reward course management over raw power.
Summers here are mild and long-dayed, which means evening rounds well into late June and July — one of the quiet pleasures of golf at this latitude that no scorecard ever captures.
