Few golf settings in Scandinavia match the drama of Frösön, the island in Lake Storsjön that has been inhabited since the Stone Age and carries a mythology deeper than most European golf clubs can dream of. Östersund-Frösö sits on this storied ground with views across the water toward the city of Östersund and the mountains beyond — a landscape that makes a round feel genuinely remote even though the island is minutes from the town center.
Jämtland is serious northern terrain: the Scandinavian Mountains are close, winters are long and hard, and the summer season is compressed but striking. When the course is open, the long Nordic days mean late-evening rounds in light that barely dims, a distinctly Swedish experience that no scorecard can capture. The area around Storsjön is also famous for its own lake monster legend, the Storsjöodjuret — Nessie's quieter Scandinavian cousin.
As a regional club serving a mid-sized Swedish city, Östersund-Frösö has a grounded, members-first character — the kind of course where local knowledge of wind off the lake and the particular firmness of fairways in the short season matters as much as anything else a visitor brings.
