Few golf courses in Central America carry the prestige of Cariari Country Club. Established in the 1970s and designed by George Fazio — the accomplished American architect responsible for several celebrated layouts in the United States — Cariari set the standard for private club golf in Costa Rica and remains the country's most storied course. It has hosted international amateur and professional events over the decades, and its membership has long represented the upper tier of San José society, giving it a character that blends competitive tradition with genuine exclusivity.
The course sits in the Valle Central, the broad highland basin that cradles San José at roughly 1,000 meters above sea level. That elevation means temperatures stay surprisingly mild year-round — cool mornings, afternoon sun, and a lushness to the turf that the tropics deliver even at altitude. The surrounding landscape is defined by volcanic mountains and dense greenery, and the Cariari corridor itself has grown into one of the capital's most developed commercial and residential zones.
