Few golf clubs in the midwest of Ireland carry the institutional weight of Castletroy, which has been a fixture of Limerick's sporting life for well over a century. The club sits in the suburban village of Castletroy on the city's eastern edge, close to the University of Limerick campus, and that academic neighbour gives the place a particular energy — a steady churn of students and faculty mixing with the established membership that keeps the atmosphere lively and unpretentious.
The course occupies relatively gentle parkland ground, the kind of quietly rolling Irish terrain where mature trees define the corridors and the quality of the turf does much of the talking. Limerick's position in the Shannon estuary region means the course plays through distinct seasons, with soft winter conditions giving way to genuinely fast, firm fairways in a good Irish summer — a different test entirely depending on when you visit.
