Few English moorland courses carry quite the weight of history that Huddersfield Golf Club does. Founded in 1891, it ranks among the oldest clubs in Yorkshire, and its course at Fixby Hall — a handsome Georgian manor that serves as the clubhouse — has been a fixture of northern English golf for well over a century. The layout sits on elevated ground above the town, exposed to the Pennine weather that can turn a calm afternoon into a stern examination without warning. It has hosted numerous prestigious amateur events over the years and is widely regarded as one of the finest inland tests in the north of England.
The moorland character defines everything here: firm, bouncy turf, heather lining the rough, and the kind of honest, links-adjacent challenge that rewards low, controlled ball-striking over aerial ambition. The views across the West Yorkshire landscape are considerable, and the wind is very much a 15th club.
Huddersfield sits within the M62 corridor, a part of England that takes its golf seriously and has produced no shortage of accomplished players. This is a members' club with genuine heritage — visiting it feels less like a transaction and more like a privilege extended by a proud institution with a lot of story still to tell.
