Whangaroa Golf Club

Few golf courses demand as much improvisation as Whangaroa. Cut through the steep, bush-clad hills above the Whangaroa Harbour, the course plays across terrain that was never really meant to be flattened — and the club has largely left it that way. Fairways tilt and camber, blind shots are part of the contract, and the surrounding native bush has a way of swallowing errant balls without apology. Kaeo sits in the far north of Northland, a region that enjoys some of the warmest, driest golf weather in New Zealand. The Whangaroa Harbour itself is one of the most spectacular natural anchorages in the country, ringed by ancient volcanic peaks, and the course catches glimpses of that water and those ridgelines throughout the round.
