Few golf courses in the Pacific Northwest carry the particular atmosphere you find at Salish Cliffs. Owned and operated by the Squaxin Island Tribe, the course is part of the Little Creek Casino Resort just outside Shelton, and it opened in 2011 to considerable fanfare — Golf Digest named it the best new course in the country that year. Gene Bates designed the layout across heavily forested terrain in the South Puget Sound region, routing holes through towering Douglas firs and across the kind of dramatic elevation changes that make the Pacific Northwest's inland courses feel almost theatrical.
Mason County sits at the southern reach of Puget Sound, where the water fractures into a series of inlets and the land rises quickly into dense timber country. That landscape shapes everything here — the air, the light filtering through the canopy, the sense of real Pacific Northwest wilderness pressing in from every direction.
The course plays as a genuine destination experience, drawing golfers from Seattle and beyond who want something beyond the standard resort round. It rewards precise shotmaking and attentive course management over raw power.
