Few private clubs in the Chicago metropolitan area carry the architectural prestige of the Ivanhoe Club. The course was designed by Tom Fazio and opened in 1999, representing one of his signature efforts in the Midwest — a layout that moves through heavily wooded terrain and significant elevation change, rare for northern Illinois. Fazio shaped the land into a series of dramatic, framed corridors, with generous but contoured fairways that reward positioning over raw distance. The greens complexes are characteristically bold, with pronounced tiers and false fronts that make club selection as important as ball-striking.
Mundelein sits in Lake County, roughly 35 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, in a stretch of the region that retains genuine natural topography — glacial ridges, hardwood stands, and the kind of rolling ground that golf architects covet. The Ivanhoe Club takes full advantage, feeling more like a destination layout than a suburban private course.
The club draws a discerning membership and maintains a reputation as one of the stronger private tracks in a market that includes serious competition from courses like Conway Farms and Medinah.
