Few courses in England carry quite the quiet authority of West Sussex Golf Club. Laid out in 1930 by Cecil Hutchison, with later refinements by Sir Guy Campbell and Commander John Harris, it occupies a stretch of heathland between the South Downs and the Weald that feels almost implausibly well-suited to golf — sandy subsoil, heather, silver birch, and Scots pine framing fairways that drain perfectly year-round.
