Westport is one of the most celebrated golf towns in Ireland, home to a championship parkland course that regularly ranks among the country's finest. But for those who want to spend time with a wedge and a putter without the commitment of 18 full holes, the town's Pitch and Putt facility offers a more relaxed way into the game — or a pleasant way to sharpen the short game that actually determines most scorecards.
Pitch and Putt as a format has deep roots in Irish recreational culture, far more so than in most other countries. Ireland has hundreds of dedicated courses, and the game is taken seriously here — this is not a seaside crazy-golf novelty but a proper short-game test where accuracy and touch matter more than power. Holes typically play from around 40 to 80 metres, demanding clean contact and an honest read of the green.
Westport itself sits at the foot of Croagh Patrick, with Clew Bay's island-dotted waters close by. Whatever the setting of this facility, you're playing in one of the west of Ireland's most scenically dramatic corners.
