The Tour Course at Camiral — formerly known as PGA Catalunya — carries genuine European Tour pedigree. Designed by Neil Coles and Angel Gallardo and opened in 1999, it quickly established itself as one of Spain's premier layouts, regularly appearing near the top of continental rankings. The course has hosted multiple European Tour events, including the Spanish Open, and the standard of conditioning here matches what tournament professionals expect. The setting in the Girona foothills of Catalonia, amid a cork oak and pine forest, gives the course a distinctive visual identity that sets it apart from coastal resort golf.
Caldes de Malavella sits in the inland province of Girona, roughly halfway between Barcelona and the Costa Brava. The terrain is gently rolling but never flat, and the natural woodland corridors demand accurate driving far more than raw power. Water comes into play on several holes, adding strategic weight without feeling contrived.
The resort rebranded as Camiral Golf & Wellness in 2022, folding in a broader wellness and hospitality offer while preserving what made the golf reputation. For visiting players, this is a genuinely world-class test in a part of Spain that rewards exploration well beyond the course itself.
