Few settings in Irish golf match the raw visual drama of the MacGillycuddy's Reeks rising behind you as you play. Beaufort Golf Club sits just west of Killarney on the banks of the River Laune, occupying a stretch of rich, low-lying farmland that keeps the fairways generous underfoot even in the wettest Kerry winters. The mountains, the river, and the ever-present Atlantic light conspire to make a round here feel less like a round of golf and more like a prolonged excuse to stand in a remarkable landscape.
Killarney itself is one of Ireland's great golf destinations, home to the celebrated Killarney Golf & Fishing Club just down the road, but Beaufort offers something distinct — a quieter, more intimate club experience away from the resort crowds. The course plays through mature parkland, and while it won't test scratch players the way its famous neighbor does, it asks for patience and course management across a layout that rewards a straight ball.
For visitors touring the Ring of Kerry or the Dingle Peninsula, Beaufort makes an honest and thoroughly enjoyable addition to any itinerary — the kind of round where the surroundings do as much work as the golf itself.
