Koksijde Golf Ter Hille

Few stretches of Belgian coastline feel as distinctly windswept and elemental as the Flemish coast around Koksijde, a small seaside municipality hugging the North Sea between De Panne and Oostduinkerke. The region is defined by its vast dune systems — some of the tallest and most dramatic in Western Europe — and a blustery maritime climate that can render the same course unrecognizable from one round to the next. This is linksland in spirit if not always in pure definition, and golf here demands the kind of low, punchy shotmaking that the flat Belgian interior rarely requires.

Ter Hille sits within this dune landscape, and the terrain does much of the design work on its own. Rolling fairways, natural hollows, and the ever-present wind conspire to make club selection and trajectory as important as distance. A round here has genuine texture — the kind a scorecard simply cannot communicate.

Koksijde itself has a relaxed, unhurried character, popular with Belgian families in summer but quiet and raw the rest of the year. That off-season quality, when the wind picks up off the North Sea and the course empties out, is arguably when Ter Hille is at its most honest and rewarding.
