Few municipal courses in America carry the prestige of Chaska Town Course. Opened in 1997 and designed by Arthur Hills, it was built by the city of Chaska as a genuine championship facility — not a compromise layout, but a course ambitious enough to host elite competition. That ambition paid off: Chaska Town Course has served as the venue for multiple USGA championships, including the U.S. Amateur, cementing its standing as one of the finest publicly accessible courses in the Upper Midwest.
Hills shaped the routing through a rolling, wooded landscape typical of the Minnesota River valley region, producing a design that rewards strategic thinking over raw power. The course has a mature, unhurried feel — tree-lined corridors, elevation changes, and greens complexes that ask real questions without resorting to gimmickry.
Chaska itself sits about 25 miles southwest of Minneapolis, and the surrounding area transitions from Twin Cities suburbs into genuine farm country. Summers here are warm and relatively short, which makes the golf season feel earned — and the course, when conditions are right, something worth the wait.
