Boise City sits in Cimarron County, the westernmost tip of the Oklahoma Panhandle — a stretch of shortgrass prairie so flat and remote that it occupies a geography most Americans couldn't place on a map. This is the heart of the old Dust Bowl, where the sky is enormous and the wind is nearly always in your face, your back, or finding some creative diagonal to complicate every approach shot. Golf out here is not manicured resort golf; it's honest, unadorned, and shaped entirely by the land.
Cimarron County Golf Course reflects that character. An 18-hole, par-72 layout serving a county of fewer than 3,000 people, it exists as a genuine community asset in one of the most isolated corners of the American plains. Expect turf conditions and facilities scaled to a small rural municipality, but also the kind of unhurried, unpretentious round that's increasingly hard to find.
The real selling point is the setting itself. Playing golf under a Panhandle sky, with nothing interrupting the horizon in any direction, is an experience that has nothing to do with difficulty ratings and everything to do with a sense of place.
