Few public courses in the St. Louis metro carry the reputation Missouri Bluffs has built since opening in 1994. Designed by Tom Fazio, it occupies a dramatic piece of terrain in St. Charles County where the land tumbles and rolls in ways that feel nothing like the flat agricultural Missouri most people picture. Fazio leaned into the topography, routing holes along ridge lines and into valleys that produce genuinely memorable elevation changes and some of the most scenic views in the region. The result has earned consistent recognition among the best public courses in Missouri, a state not always celebrated for standout golf.
St. Charles sits just west of the Missouri River from St. Louis proper, and the area's wooded bluffs — the name is entirely literal — give the course a character that feels removed from suburban sprawl even when you're close to it. Mature trees frame most holes, and the terrain keeps nearly every shot interesting.
Missouri Bluffs plays as a par 71, a number that reflects a design built around strategy rather than length alone. Fazio used the uneven ground to create angles and risk-reward decisions that reward thoughtful play, making it a course locals return to repeatedly rather than check off a list.
