Blackbutt is a small timber town in the South East Queensland hinterland, sitting on the edge of the Brisbane Valley roughly 130 kilometres northwest of the state capital. The surrounding country is open hardwood forest — blackbutt eucalypts among them, the tree that gives the town its name — rolling into low hills that define much of the region's character.
