Hilton Head Island has been one of American golf's most concentrated destinations since the early 1970s, when developers and designers began carving courses through its coastal lowcountry landscape of maritime forest, tidal marshes, and Spanish moss-draped oaks. The island now hosts well over 20 courses, and the name Jones on a Hilton Head layout almost certainly points to the Rees Jones or Robert Trent Jones lineage — a family whose fingerprints are all over Sea Island and resort golf throughout the Southeast. Without knowing precisely which Jones course this is, it would be dishonest to claim more.

What the setting guarantees, regardless of pedigree, is a round shaped by the lowcountry's particular drama: salt air, afternoon breezes off the Atlantic, alligators patrolling the water hazards with zero interest in your golf ball, and that soft coastal light that makes even a bogey feel forgivable.

A par-72 layout here will almost certainly play alongside tidal inlets or through stands of palmetto and live oak — terrain that rewards course management over raw power, and makes the surroundings as memorable as the scorecard.
