Few courses in northern Italy carry the historical weight of Golf Club Varese. Founded in 1934, it ranks among the oldest and most distinguished clubs in Lombardy, and its reputation extends well beyond the region — it has hosted multiple editions of the Italian Open, cementing its status as one of the country's premier championship venues. The layout was designed by Peter Gannon and winds through mature woodland on the hillside slopes above Lake Varese, giving it a character that feels genuinely European in the old-school sense: measured, considered, and rooted in its terrain.
The setting in Luvinate, a small village just minutes from the city of Varese, puts the course at the edge of the Prealps. The elevation changes are real and meaningful, the tree cover dense, and on clear days the views toward the lake and surrounding hills reward the patient walker as much as the scorer.
This is a members' club with genuine pedigree — not a resort showpiece but a serious test with decades of competitive history behind it. Visitors who earn access find a course that demands thought and local knowledge to score well.
