Golfclub De Haar

Few Dutch courses carry the atmosphere of De Haar. The club sits beside Kasteel de Haar, the largest and most visited castle in the Netherlands — a neo-Gothic landmark that was extensively restored in the late 19th century by architect Pierre Cuypers. Playing here means moving through a landscape of moats, towers, and ancient woodland that would feel theatrical anywhere else but somehow reads as entirely natural in this corner of the Utrecht countryside.

The course itself has long been regarded as one of the stronger private members' clubs in the Netherlands, benefiting from mature tree cover and the kind of unhurried, park-like setting that rewards careful shot-shaping over raw distance. Haarzuilens is a small estate village effectively built around the castle grounds, and the area around Utrecht — flat in places but varied here — gives De Haar a character that stands apart from the links-influenced designs found closer to the Dutch coast.
