Larry Nelson — the 3-time major champion who grew up working on golf courses before turning pro — designed Rock Creek, and his fingerprints show in a layout that rewards strategic thinking over raw power. Set in Fairhope along the eastern shore of Mobile Bay, the course winds through mature hardwoods and gentle terrain typical of coastal Alabama's piney lowlands, with the kind of thoughtful routing that reflects a player's perspective on how a hole should actually be played.
Fairhope itself is one of the more distinctive small cities on the Gulf Coast — an arts-oriented, walkable community with a civic identity that extends to the care its residents take with their surroundings. Rock Creek fits that sensibility: it's a well-regarded daily-fee course that draws a loyal local following and has earned a reputation as among the better public options in the Mobile Bay area, without leaning on resort spectacle to make its case.
The conditioning here tends to punch above its class, and the tree-lined corridors keep wayward hitters honest throughout the round.
