Par 64s get a bad reputation they don't always deserve, and River Ridge in Lumby is a good example of why. Shorter layouts in the BC Interior can demand just as much precision and shot-making creativity as their par-72 counterparts — perhaps more, since the margin for error on compact holes tends to be slimmer and the emphasis shifts sharply from power to placement.
Lumby sits in the North Okanagan, east of Vernon in the valley carved by the Coldstream and Monashee foothills. It's quieter and less touristed than the Kelowna corridor to the south, but the landscape is genuinely striking: ponderosa pine, rolling benchlands, and the kind of dry interior light that makes afternoon rounds feel unhurried. The regional golf scene draws heavily on the Okanagan's reputation as one of BC's most productive golf destinations.
A course like River Ridge fits the fabric of a small community well — accessible, walkable in all likelihood, and oriented toward the local golfer who plays regularly rather than the destination visitor ticking boxes. That can make for some of the most honest, unpretentious golf around.
