Few stretches of the American Southeast carry as much golf weight as the Grand Strand, and Pawleys Island sits at its quieter, more refined southern end. Willbrook Plantation Golf Club belongs to that tradition of low-country plantation-themed courses that defined the Myrtle Beach area's golf boom of the 1980s and '90s — designs that leaned into the region's mossy live oaks, tidal marshes, and Carolina rice-field heritage to create something distinctly of this place.
The low-country landscape does real work here. Expect the kind of routing where water is a constant presence, flatness is deceptive, and the Spanish-moss-draped canopy creates a mood that no inland parkland can replicate. These conditions — warm, often humid, with coastal breezes that shift throughout the day — mean the same hole can play very differently depending on when you tee off.
Willbrook draws the Pawleys Island crowd that wants a full, unhurried round away from the denser resort corridors further up the strand. It's the kind of course where the setting does as much talking as the layout itself.
