St. Croix is the largest of the US Virgin Islands, an island of rolling hills, sugar-mill ruins, and trade winds that blow steady off the Caribbean — and golf here means something genuinely different from the mainland version. Buccaneer Golf Club sits on the grounds of the Buccaneer resort on the island's east end, one of the oldest and most storied properties in the Caribbean, and its course reflects that heritage: compact, hilly, and framed by sweeping ocean views that will pull your eyes off the ball at the worst possible moments.
The layout plays as a shorter, tighter test — par 70 signals a course that earns its difficulty through elevation change, wind, and precision rather than sheer length. The trade winds are not decorative; they shift club selection and shot shape on nearly every hole, and learning to read them is its own education.
This is resort golf in the truest sense — unpretentious, scenic, and rooted in a place with genuine character. St. Croix draws a quieter traveler than St. Thomas, and Buccaneer fits that mood: unhurried, authentic, and worth the trip on its own terms.
