Chicago's public golf infrastructure is genuinely one of the more underappreciated stories in American municipal golf, and Marquette Park sits squarely within that tradition. The course is part of the Chicago Park District system, a network that has put affordable, accessible golf within reach of the city's neighborhoods for well over a century. Named for the park that surrounds it on the city's Southwest Side, this is golf rooted in community — the kind of layout where regulars know each other by name and weekday mornings carry a particular rhythm.
The Southwest Side landscape is flat, as much of Chicago is, and the course plays through mature parkland trees that define corridors and create a sense of separation from the surrounding urban fabric. The setting rewards accuracy over power, and the shaded stretches offer real relief on the humid summer afternoons that Chicago serves up from June through August.
For residents of Marquette Park and the surrounding neighborhoods, this is their course — not a destination track, but a genuine local institution where the game remains refreshingly democratic and unhurried.
