Few golf settings anywhere test the imagination quite like Iquique's desert coast, where the Atacama meets the Pacific and the landscape feels genuinely alien — bone-dry clifftops, perpetual sunshine, and the cold Humboldt Current pushing surf against the shoreline below. Club de Golf Playa Blanca sits within this striking environment, and simply playing golf here is an exercise in geographic disorientation for anyone arriving from a green-fairway world.
Iquique itself is a port city with a strong identity — a free-trade zone, a paragliding mecca, and a place where the desert tumbles almost directly into the ocean. Golf here operates on its own terms. Expect desert-adapted turf, browns and tans in the rough, and a sun that demands sunscreen and hydration long before you reach the turn. Wind off the Pacific is a constant factor and effectively adds difficulty no slope rating can fully capture.
For traveling golfers, Playa Blanca offers something genuinely rare: a round played inside one of the world's most extreme landscapes, remote enough that simply showing up feels like an accomplishment.
