Römergolf takes its name from the Roman history embedded in this corner of Salzburg's Flachgau region — the flat, lake-dotted lowlands north of the city of Salzburg where evidence of Roman settlement still surfaces in the landscape. Henndorf am Wallersee sits on the shore of one of the Salzburg Seenland's most beloved lakes, and the course reflects that pastoral, unhurried character: wide open farmland terrain softened by the Alps rising to the south, giving players a backdrop that shifts with the light and season in ways few courses can match.
The Flachgau's golf scene is quietly strong, serving a mix of Salzburg city members, summer tourists, and visitors to the lake district who want unhurried, accessible play away from the higher-profile resort tracks around the city. Courses in this region tend to reward straight, controlled ball-striking over power, with the relatively flat land replaced by subtle bunkering and natural water features as the primary defenses.
As a club with Roman heritage built into its identity, Römergolf leans into its regional roots — a round here is as much about experiencing a distinctly Austrian lake-country setting as it is about the golf itself.
