El Paraiso Golf Clubhouse

El Paraiso occupies a stretch of the Costa del Sol between Estepona and Marbella, in one of Andalusia's most densely packed golf corridors. The course was designed by Gary Player and opened in 1973, making it one of the earlier purpose-built layouts on a coastline that would go on to host dozens of courses. Player's design makes strong use of the natural terrain — gently undulating ground with mature palm trees, pines, and subtropical vegetation framing the fairways, and the foothills of the Sierra Bermeja providing a dramatic backdrop inland while glimpses of the Mediterranean appear to the south.

The layout is known for being both accessible and quietly demanding. Player favored generous landing areas but protected his greens carefully, so scoring well requires precise approach play rather than raw power. The course has a relaxed, resort-adjacent atmosphere without feeling like a purely commercial operation — it has held European Tour qualifying events and carries genuine standing among the Costa del Sol's serious golfing venues.

Estepona itself sits at the quieter, less developed western end of the Costa del Sol, which gives El Paraiso a slightly more unhurried character than courses closer to Marbella's busier resort strip. The climate is reliably warm for most of the year, and the setting — mountains behind, sea ahead — is as close to the course's name as Andalusia tends to get.
